Where Do Our Mushrooms Come From?

A Transparent Look Beyond The Label

At Mogo Farm, we believe in doing things with honesty, care and deep respect for nature. Our mushroom tinctures are more than just products  - they’re the result of years of passion, experimentation and a lifelong connection to the land.

We’re often asked where our mushrooms come from, and we love answering that question - because it gives us the chance to share our roots, our values, and the journey that brought Mogo Farm tinctures to life.

So let’s take you back to the beginning.

From the Woods to the Workshop: How Mogo Farm Began

As many of our customers already know - Mogo Farm started not as a company, but as a calling.

“My connection with mushrooms began long before our tinctures- it started right here on the farm where I grew up. I spent my childhood wandering the woods, learning every inch of the landscape, getting to know the seasons, the trees and the incredible fungi that emerged each autumn.”

This wasn’t a business idea. It was a personal pursuit. Years spent travelling, learning from indigenous wisdom, and exploring the role of fungi in health, wellbeing and spirituality ultimately led to years of passionate home-growing - of Lion’s Mane, Cordyceps, Oyster mushrooms, and even Reishi.

With every failed batch and learning curve - from adjusting growing temperatures and humidity levels to trialling different growing mediums - the process became more refined. Success was not handed to us. It was earned through patience, experimentation and love for this beautiful kingdom of fungi.

Our First Batch: Born of Curiosity, Not Commerce

The first batch of tinctures was not made for sale, but for family. The benefits I personally experienced were so profound that I couldn’t help but share - and the reaction was overwhelming.

“That would be a life saver!”

“I’ll try that.”

Before long, I was preparing tinctures for friends, friends of friends, and eventually for paying customers. Mogo Farm became a vehicle for something bigger - rooted in personal story and connection to nature, not corporate goals.

Our earliest tinctures were made using the mushrooms I personally grew, along with foraged Turkey Tail and Birch Polypore from the lush, clean areas of Derbyshire. For Chaga, I turned to friends I had made while traveling, who now sustainably harvest it in the Scottish Highlands.

Those six mushrooms - Lion’s Mane, Cordycpes, Turkey Tail, Birch Polypore, Reishi and Chaga - became the foundation of Mogo Farm.

Shortly after we started came the unexpected - demand.

So… Where Do Our Mushrooms Come From Now?

The truth is simple and honest: we still grow Lion’s Mane and Cordyceps on our farm. But it’s no longer enough. Our tinctures have reached a wider community that we have ever dreamed of - and with that, came the need to expand.

That’s why we now partner with carefully selected network of UK-based mushroom farmers and foragers. These farms, spread across England, Wales, and Scotland, share our passion and standards. We are proud to support local businesses beyond our own.

Yes, our tinctures are “Made in the UK” - because they are. Every mushrooms is grown or foraged in the UK, processed here on the farm, and extracted, bottled and packed by hand.

We’ve never claimed to grow 100% of our mushrooms. But we’ve always been 100% transparent.

What We Still Do On The Farm

Despite scaling up, here’s what hasn’t changed:

  • We process every mushroom ourselves - checking for quality, carefully drying where necessary, and dual-extracting using our perfected methods.

  • We do not outsource tincture production. It all happens here - under our roof, by our team.

  • We work with chemists and mycologists to continuously improve our formulations, always prioritising potency, safety and efficacy.

  • We never add fillers, preservatives or artificial ingredients - just pure mushroom extracts.

Supporting a Growing Mushroom Community

Our expansion has opened new opportunities:

  • We now collaborate with mushroom farms across the UK, and we’re always looking for new partners.

  • If you’re a grower - big or small - and you’re passionate about fungi, reach out. We’d love to hear from you.

This is more than a business. It’s a community effort to elevate functional mushrooms and their benefits.

The Bottom Line

Yes - Mogo Farm is still a farm.
Yes - we still grown mushrooms.
No - we do not grow every single mushroom ourselves. But that is not a betrayal of our values. It’s a reflection of growth.

What matters most is that every mushroom is UK-grown, handled with care, extracted with precision, and delivered with integrity.

We don’t mislead. We don’t take shortcuts. And we’re always here to answer your questions, clarify any confusion, and support your wellness journey with transparency and heart.
